From Pooja to Profits: How I Manage My Day as a SEBI® Research Analyst

Wed Jul 17, 2024

As a SEBI-registered independent research analyst, my days are structured yet fulfilling, filled with work, family, and personal pursuits. Here’s a glimpse into my daily routine and how I balance my professional and personal life.

Morning Rituals and Preparation
My day starts early at 6 AM. I enjoy a quiet moment sipping a glass of water in my balcony, followed by an hour of bath, pooja, chanting, and meditation. This routine, whether it's Sunday or Monday, remains unchanged and helps set a positive tone for the day.

After my morning rituals, I dive into reading newspapers, primarily Economic Times and Business Standard, and occasionally Financial Express. I am particular about the columns and fonts, preferring these two unless I'm traveling. This reading session lasts until 8:30 AM, after which I head to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

Breakfast preparation is a well-coordinated task, with the menu often decided the night before. It takes just half an hour to prepare breakfast for myself, my husband, and our maid. We usually have breakfast in front of the TV, catching up on news and updates on our mobiles.

Swing Trading and Market Analysis
As a swing and positional trader, my day is not consumed by constant market monitoring. I use technical indicators, my strategies, sector rotation analysis, risk management, and fundamental overviews to select stocks for recommendations. Each recommendation is carefully drafted with entry levels, stop loss, targets, and suggested maximum quantities to ensure diversification.

I send out one or two trade suggestions per day, supplemented by SEBI-mandated stock rationales, and provide real-time updates to my clients. Keeping track of past trades and their performance is essential, and I ensure timely communication if targets are achieved or stop losses are hit.

Additionally, I have outsourced a few activities to ensure efficiency and focus on core tasks. During weekdays, I hold small meetings with my team to discuss any client issues and address concerns promptly.

Post-Market and Personal Time
After market hours, I summarize the day’s events, check index levels, and review sectoral performances. A brief rest follows, where I put some eye mist and lie down for 10 minutes to alleviate screen-induced stress.

Being Mangalorean, I believe in a heavy breakfast, often skipping lunch in favor of channa, nuts, and dry fruits, which keeps me active. From 5 to 6 PM, I dedicate time to my academy students. I run an online academy offering NISM certification lectures, and this hour is reserved for resolving students' doubts and providing moral support.

Dinner preparation starts around 6 PM, and we usually dine by 7 PM. Post-dinner, I spend some time talking to my father over the phone. Our female Doberman often seeks attention, and I spend time with her and our six dogs in the villa parking, feeding and playing with them whenever I find free moments between 11 AM to 1 PM.

Evening Wind-Down
Nighttime is another hour dedicated to market study, checking the NSE site for important company announcements. By 8:30 PM, my husband, our Doberman, and I go for a walk, feed the dogs, and play with them. By 10:30 PM, I’m ready for bed.

Weekends are slightly different as we visit my in-laws and spend quality time with family. Despite loving to travel, my work routine remains consistent even when on the move.

This structured yet flexible routine allows me to manage my professional responsibilities while giving time to my family, hobbies, and pets, ensuring a balanced and fulfilling life.
