Why BSE Visit Is Always Special For Finance Students?

Tue Aug 6, 2024

Here’s the overall summary of what actually happens at BSE Visit (contributed by a student of Mulund College of Commerce)

Like any other college, MCC also scheduled this BSE event at Mumbai for giving more info about upcoming BSE programs and how markets work (a backend look).

Students had sat in the renovated "trading ring" which now serves as an auditorium.

In the 1st half students were given the basic knowledge of how BSE & NSE (secondary & primary market works). The overall vibes of the BSE infrastructure triggered the dream of becoming a reputed fund manager in a good firm.

Continuing this, there was a quick introduction of the lecturer (who would guide students & solve all thier doubts): Rakesh Nair is a seasoned capital markets professional with extensive experience in the Indian financial sector. He holds academic qualifications in economics and international business, making significant contributions to finance, capital markets, and financial management. He has been a Senior Faculty of Capital Markets, and now the Head of Academics and Content, at BSE Institute Ltd, a subsidiary of the Bombay Stock Exchange. He has also been associated with various academic institutions as a visiting faculty and as a corporate trainer for mutual funds and other BFSI institutions.

Sir Rakesh Nair shared valuable insights on various topics including markets, stocks, companies, derivatives, and options. He emphasized the intersection of finance and technology, highlighting that it's not just finance but a combination of finance and technology.
Students came across something interesting. Upon observing the pillars in the circles, they noticed that they were labelled with the letters A to P. Later, we found out that these pillars used to be trading counters, where companies starting with any particular initial let's say "A" would be traded on counter A.

Next the explanation was on:

What does fintech actually mean?

Most staff are from IT & engineering . Even finance students want to learn about tech and upskill fast. How many orders come in 1 sec was stressed more. Pillars on the counter about trading, Last about questions and guidance to work in BSE (most pros are tech & engineers, MBA , finance & HR).
The trainers also noted to the students - that options trading need deep knowledge) it has more risk. Derivatives discussion on investor's loss. AI

The session ended with a Q&A discussion that covered the current budget, as well as future trends in the economy and markets.

- BSE weren’t in the hurry to promotes their courses to colleges (only college students are allowed for seminars).
- BSE still share more about financial modeling, research analyst, how investing would impact and more.
- Here students don’t have a BSE tour with specific machines’ guidance or operation intend, this visit was totally for financial literacy and making the derivatives market understanding super strong.
